Thursday

Natalie has had some ups and downs this week. Today is starting out as another down day. Her O2 requirements are back up at 100% and they don't know why. She extubated herself yesterday and they did a quick try on C-PAP. It only lasted 3 hours. She really fights having the prongs in her nose and if there is not a good seal the pressure is lost and it won't work.

I am feeling lost and frustrated. I do not understand why her O2 requirements have been climbing so much lately and they don't seem to have good answers for us. Please pray hard for Natalie. We need every bit of help we can get.

  1. Saying prayers for her!!! Can I ask why they use the prongs with a C-PAP? Reagan had a C-PAP that fit completely over her nose, nothing in the nostrils. Maybe if she wasn't so uncomfortable she would tolerate it better.
Thinking of all of you and sending prayers up!!!

  2. Praying like crazy that they can figure it out or she just needs less and less with time.

  3. I know how frustrating this is. Clark did not tolerate cpap at all. On a whim one day, his dr tried hi flow nasal cannula. It did the trick. He still had desats and hr drops for several weeks but we were told that was normal. I'm praying for you guys. I know you'll get over this hump.

  4. Still praying for Natalie's lungs to get with the program. Im with Lisa in asking why a CPAP with prongs? I have never seen one and I can see how it would be uncomfortable with such tiny nostrils. Maybe it's a new thing. I pray she starts to rebound soon! It is very frustrating when things don't go as they should and there is no explanation.

  5. My daughter had a CPAP that looked almost like a gas mask (scary looking but much more comfortable for them than a ventilator). No prongs on it. I would ask about that. She only got prongs when she went to Oxygen with a nasal canula.

  9. Oh, Jenn!

I do feel like I'm sitting right next to you - you're on the respiratory side and I'm on the GI side. You always have my thoughts and prayers! Hope we can catch up by phone one of these days!

Hugs and prayers to you both!
